Graduation party

On May the 31st the graduation party was held at Scandinavian Gymnasium at which the eleventh-graders received certificates of complete secondary education. Among them, seven students were awarded gold and silver medals.

Holiday of the Last Bell

On May the 30th the Holiday of the Last Bell took place at Scandinavian Gymnasium. Students, teachers and parents, the whole gymnasium family, gathered in the school stadium. This day marks the end of a school year. This is the next step to knowledge.

Exhibition: “Anna Frank. The lessons of history”

On May the 20th the exhibition "Anna Frank. The lessons of history" began its work in the framework of the project "Tolerance as a way of survival of mankind in the XXI century. The dialogue of killed in the XX century.. with those who live in the XXI century. Attempts to comprehend."

Student government conference

On May the 16th Scandinavian Gymnasium held an elective conference of the student government where the students chose their leader. The President of the Gymnasium Parliament is a person who is able to lead a group in solving specific problems, who is independent in making decisions and who is ready to be responsible for their consequences.

Holiday of Ukrainian Embroidery

On May the 15th for the third time in succession the Holiday of Ukrainian Embroidery took place at Scandinavian Gymnasium. The Ukrainian Embroidery is the spiritual symbol of the Ukrainian people, our native land, the family home, and mother's hands warmth. All the long history of the Ukrainian nation, its creative pursuits, joy and sorrow, its victories and defeats, hopes for the future are connected with it.

Sounds of waltz

On May the 14th the “Kyiv Waltz” district competition took place in Darnytsya. It was a true celebration of youth and beauty. Teams of graduates of Darnytsya district secondary schools attended the competition. The best, the most talented competed there but the team of Scandinavian Gymnasium won the championship.

Meeting with volunteers

On May the 12th in the framework of the Week of German Culture our 5th-graders met volunteers - representatives of the "Vidershtral" Center of German Culture and the Austrian Cultural Forum.

Memory of the great past

Many years have passed since May 1945 but today, nevertheless, the feat of defenders and liberators remains an inexhaustible source of the people of Ukraine. On this day we remember all those whose lives were taken by war, we honor those who fought in the Great Patriotic War, those who served on the home front by selfless labor bringing closer the victory over the enemy, those who survived during the occupation and in the hell of the concentration camps, and those who in the postwar years raised the country from ruins.

XV International UN Model

From the 13th through the 18th of April Moscow hosted the XV International Model of the United Nations. The game took place in Moscow State Institute of International Relations, in Russia. Every year a delegation of our gymnasium attends the event. This year, unfortunately, only one student - Oleg Fedornyak (10B) - attended the event because of the political situation.

Day of the Environment

High school students of Darnytsya district of Kyiv together with their teachers by tradition celebrate the Day of the Environment and the Earth Day: they plant trees in the Alley of the Graduates. On April the 16th, 2014 on the eve of Easter the “Alley of the Graduates-2014” event took place on the premises of the boarding school #12.

Bells of Chernobyl

In April, 1986 the Ukrainian word "Chornobyl" came into different languages of the world. For all the mankind this word has become synonymous with the greatest environmental disaster. On the 25th of April lessons devoted to the Chornobyl accident which affected the environment around the world took place at Scandinavian Gymnasium.

Ukraine - Georgia: Two Hearts - One Soul

In April students and teachers of Scandinavian Gymnasium visited the partner "Opiza" school (Tbilisi, Georgia). This is the second visit of our students to their friends after a three-year break. The trip left incredible impressions and the students will remember it for a long time.

Farewell to Primer

For the whole year our smallest pupils followed the path to knowledge together with their faithful friend – the Primer. They showed their successes and achievements on the 16th and 17th of April at the "Farewell to Primer!" festival.

«Greenwich» Contest

Scandinavian Gymnasium hosted the All-Ukrainian 'Greenwich' Competition of English in which students of different schools of Ukraine participated. The pupils of the 2nd-4th grades could check their knowledge, vision and character. 115 students of our school tested their skills at an intellectual competition.

Video Conference of the eTwinning Project

On April the 3rd a video conference between the 6A class of Scandinavian Gymnasium and the students of the 6thgrade of the elementary school of the city of Livada (Hios, Greece) was held. This was the first communication between Ukrainian and Greek peers in the framework of the eTwinning Plus international project.

Birthday of Hans Christian Andersen

On April the 2nd the whole world celebrates the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen, the beloved storyteller of all ages. In honor of this event the students studying Danish organized various festive activities.

United Nations Model in Kyiv Business Lyceum

On March the 21st-23rd, 2014 on the initiative of Kyiv Business Lyceum the VII Regional Conference "UN Model: Kyiv - 2014": "The future which we seek" was held for senior students of Kyiv. 24 students of the best schools in the capital including Scandinavian Gymnasium participated in the conference.

Cooperation with Poland in Action

During the spring holidays a group of students (9th-11th grades) with their parents and teachers visited Sopot to learn about education in Poland and to establish friendly relations with a partner schools and their universityтетом.

"Scandinavian Steps" Festival

In March “The Scandinavian Steps”, the festival of the languages of the Nordic countries, was held at Scandinavian Gymnasium. The students of the 5- 11th grades studying Danish, Norwegian, Finnish and Swedish participated in the event. In the framework of the festival a variety of interesting activities took place: unconventional lessons, competitions, geographic quizzes, shows and presentations.

Congratulations!

Catherine Heseleva, the student of the 10A class of Scandinavian Gymnasium competing with the 10th-formers of other schools won the first place in the 9th stage of the XIX All-Ukrainian subject competition in history.

Club of Cheerful and Resourceful in English

In the framework of the festival of foreign languages on the 21st of March a holiday "Spring is the time to love" was held at Scandinavian Gymnasium. The students of the 9th grade competed in such categories as music video, "Guess the word" pantomime and geography.

Our Pride

The student of the 6A class, Darya Snihur, took part in the European Tennis Championship “Open Super 12 Auray 2014" held in the city of Aurey (France) where among 64 athletes she rated second having won a victory over representatives of different countries.

Week of Foreign Languages

The annual festival of foreign languages is held at our gymnasium in order to broaden the knowledge of foreign languages and to improve communication skills of our students. The elementary school has already held a variety of interesting activities.

Awarding the Winners of Nationwide Subject Competition and Minor Academy of Sciences Competition-Defense of Students’ Research Papers

On March the 13th, 2014 an awarding ceremony to pay tribute to the winners of the national subject competitions and Minor Academy of Sciences competition-defense of students’ research papers took place in the Assembly Hall of Scandinavian Gymnasium.

Taras Shevchenko’s Works in Foreign Languages

In the framework of celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Great Poet our students participated in various activities of the district and city level. The Readings of Taras Shevchenko’s poems in foreign languages was one of the most interesting events.

There are names in the history of mankind that people will honor, pronounce proudly and remember forever. In March we are going to celebrate the 200thanniversary of Taras Shevchenko, the great son of Ukrainian people. And his words live under the sun of Ukraine, words of love of his people and homeland.

Journey to England

In February, at the invitation of the «East-West Bridge» language center a group of students and teachers visited the UK and its capital city of London. For two weeks the participants learned English from a native speaker, professor from Oxford, and enjoyed visiting world renowned places of interest.

Birthday of Scandinavian Gymnasium

On January the 24th Scandinavian Gymnasium celebrated its ninth birthday. The program of the event included holiday greetings from every class.

Holiday of Christmas Carols

On January the 15th the actors of Kyiv Academic Theatre of Ukrainian Folklore “Beregynya” (water nymph) visited Scandinavian Gymnasium. Their spectacular show which reproduced the winter holiday cycle enchanted the students. Together with the students the actors of the theater plunged into the magical world of Ukrainian past. Christmas carols and folk dances created festive mood and the sense of belonging to Ukrainian folk traditions.

Christmas Matinees

The New Year celebrations began with very interesting parties at our gymnasium.
For the pupils of the 5th-6th grades the "Lady Bird" theater supported by the "Scandy" Foundation" prepared a gift – the "New Adventures" performance. And some classes presented their own New Year's performances.

Winter Holidays at Elementary School

All of us - children and adults - look forward to the winter holidays every year. Indeed, in winter almost every day is a holiday each of which is unique and full of interesting games and fun!

Consul of Denmark at the Gymnasium

On December the 20th, 2013 Karina Myulin, the Consul of the Embassy of Denmark in Ukraine visited Scandinavian Gymnasium. The students studying the Danish language under the guidance of A. Petrunko, the teacher of Danish, prepared the New Year's concert: showed fabulous etude, and gave the guest a symbolic Christmas heart made ??with their own hands.

Saint Lucia Day

On the 14th of December the traditional Day of St. Lucia is celebrated in Sweden which is especially revered in this country. This holiday didn’t go unnoticed in the capital of Ukraine. For the past several years the "Merry Notes" choir of Scandinavian Gymnasium has been participating in the celebration of this day at the residence of Hakan Hedstrem, the Swedish Military Attache.

Minor Academy of Sciences School Conference

On December the 5th, 2013 the annual Scientific Conference on defense of student research works of the Minor Academy of Sciences took place at Scandinavian Gymnasium. The conference was attended by the students of the gymnasium, members of the “Erudite” Research Society, and their teachers.

UN Model: Scandy-2013

On the 29th – 30th of November 2013, the “UN Model: Scandy – 2013” Scientific Conference was held at Scandinavian Gymnasium. International cooperation is a key to sustainable development and security of the international community.

Meeting with the Attache

On November the 26th the students of Scandinavian Gymnasium met with Mr. Hakan Hedstrem, the Defense Attache of the Embassy of Sweden. The meeting was held in democratic atmosphere of easy communication.

Heads of Schools Meeting

On November the 22nd the delegation of directors of Ukrainian and foreign schools: Yukka Kittinen, the Vice- President of the European Association of Educational Institutions, Liviya Jankowski, the President of the School Directors Association in Latvia as well as other guests from Lviv , Sumy, Kyiv and Kyiv region visited Scandinavian Gymnasium.

Visit to Tallinn

From the 11th through the 15th of November the teachers from Moldova, Bulgaria and Ukraine with the participation of Tatiana E. Pushkareva, the Headmistress of Scandinavian Gymnasium, visited Tallinn (Estonia).

Minor School Olympiads – the Path to Success in the Future!

One of the most effective forms of extra-curricular activities is school competitions. We know that young students like any competition because at this age "game–competition–victory" formula is perceived by the child as a whole.

The week of UNESCO

UNESCO Associated Schools carry out an important function of secondary schools adaptation to the needs of the global information society and bring the culture of innovation and best practice into the education in our country. This UNESCO associated schools have to become the enlightened heart of Ukraine.

E-Twinning Conference

On November the 15th our teachers A. Voron and O. Petrunko with their students Victor Knurov and Julia Shcherbak were invited to the E-Twinning international conference "Being European in the EU : Opportunities and Challenges of Active Citizenship " which took place at the Kyiv Tychyna Gymnasium #191.

“Autumn Colors” Festival

Linguistic Express

On November the 14th, 2013 the “Linguistic Express” competition in English for 6-graders was held at the "Naukova Zmina" Lyceum . The Scandinavian Gymnasium students team participated in this competition.

"Russian Bear Cub" Game-Contest

On November the 14th, 2013 the gymnasium hosted an international game competition "Russian Bear Cub - Linguistics for Everyone”.

“The Beaver” – the International Contest in Informatics

On November the 11th, 2013 the International Contest in Informatics and Computer Literacy aimed at improving the IT competencies of the students, learning modern information and computer technology, and stirring up the creativity of our students took place at Scandinavian Gymnasium.

The Lesson of Courage

On the eve of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Kiev from Nazi occupation on the 5th of November the school lessons of courage were held at Scandinavian Gymnasium. The students recalled the days when the defenders of our country liberated the capital of Ukraine at the cost of their lives.

Initiation into First-Formers

It has become a tradition at our gymnasium to celebrate initiation into first-formers every year in October. So, on October the 24th, the smallest elementary school students gathered with their teachers and parents in the assembly hall.

Primary school pupils’ participation in the English competition

In September, 2013 «Dinternal Book» which is the largest representative of British literature in Ukraine held the municipal competition called «Autumn is here» where primary school students tried their hand in creating beautiful pictures.

"Shogun" Club News

On October the 12th, 2013 the international karate tournament "Tallinn Open-2013" took place in the city of Tallinn. The athletes of our "Shogun" Club showed good results in the tournament and won 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.

"Junior" Intellectual Game

On October 11th, 2013 a team of 5V form students “The Young Vikings” tested their strength in the district stage of All-Ukrainian intellectual game called “Junior.”

Cooperation: Ukraine – Poland

On the 10th-11th of October the Scandinavian Gymnasium Administration met with Teresa Martyniuk, the principal of Sopot High School (Poland ) and Marek Urbanski, the vice-principal.

Course on Christian Ethics

On the 3rd of October Scandinavian Gymnasium started the "Christian ethics" course. This course will be given by Dimitriy Harchuk, the Rector of Our Lady Cathedral of Southern Vicariate of Kyiv Orthodox Church Golosiyevsky Deanery.

Results of the "Kangaroo 2013" International Mathematical Competition in the 5th-11th grades

Annually the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with the International Association "Kangaroo Without Borders" holds the international mathematical competition called "The Kangaroo" which brings together participants from over 30 countries. In Ukraine, the basic unit for the competition is Lviv Physics and Mathematics Lyceum at Lviv National University named after Ivan Franko.

Meeting with a writer

On September the 23rd the students of 4V and 4B forms visited the Museum of Ukrainian Literature where they met the Chairman of the Creative Association of Children's Writers of Ukraine , Lesya Ukrainka prize winner, Honored Worker of Ukraine, Anatoly L. Kachan, the author of many books for children.

Youth Scientific Conference Devoted to the International Day of Peace

On September 19-20, 2013 the team of Scandinavian Gymnasium comprising students of 11V form (Alexander Krayev, Kateryna Halmirzayeva, Maxim Hushchenko), students of 10B form (Roman Shabalkov, Marina Skvortsova, Oleg Fedornyak), and Yelyzaveta Fedorovska, a student of 8A form together with Nataliya V. Melnyk, the Deputy Director of the gymnasium and Y. V. Gorbunova, the teacher of IT, visited school # 12 in the city of Konotop and attended the two-day conference entitled " X + Y = РЕАСЕ " dedicated to the International Day of Peace.

Meeting of the student government leaders at “Artek” ICC

In September, 2013 the International Children's Center "Artek” held the XI International Educational and Recreational Meeting of Kyiv student government leaders. Three hundred 8-11-formers from different Kyiv schools participated in the meeting including the students from our gymnasium.

Kyiv - Tbilisi: two hearts - one soul

The international partnership relations recommenced at the beginning of the school year. From September the 7th through the 15th our long-awaited friends from the Georgian "Opiza" school in the city of Tbilisi visited Kyiv and our gymnasium for the second time.

Taras Shevchenko Lesson

On September the 2nd by the order of Viktor Yanukovych, the President of Ukraine, the All-Ukrainian Taras Shevchenko Television Lesson took place in all schools of Ukraine. The event was organized for the purpose of promoting the study of Taras Shevchenko creative heritage and celebrating in 2014 the 200th anniversary of his birth.

Day of Knowledge

On September the 1st Scandinavian Gymnasium celebrated the start of another school year. The students returned to school where their friends and experienced mentors – teachers – were waiting for them. That was a very special day for six classes of 1st-formers who joined the school family.
