The 200th Anniversary of Taras Shevchenko
There are names in the history of mankind that people will honor, pronounce proudly and remember forever. In March we are going to celebrate the 200thanniversary of Taras Shevchenko, the great son of Ukrainian people. And his words live under the sun of Ukraine, words of love of his people and homeland.
Preparing to celebrate the anniversary students and teachers of Scandinavian Gymnasium hold many interesting events.
At the beginning of the school year a number of trips to the cities of Kaniv, Pereyasliv and Taras Shevchenko birthplace were made.
The students of the 7th-11th grades took part in the competition of wall papers. The students of the 5th-8th grades organized an exhibition of pictures illustrating the poet’s works.
The students of the 9th grade took part in the intellectual game "Shevchenko known and unknown " and on the 27thof February the team of Scandinavian Gymnasium, “The Swallow”, ranked second in the district phase of the game.
Our 5-formers watched the movie "Taras Shevchenko. The Childhood".
On the 28th of February the folk group "Beregynya" visited our school. The sounds of music accompanied Shevchenko’s poems. His words are still topical at present. The students studying Scandinavian languages joined the celebration. "The Testament" of Taras Shevchenko will be recited in Danish and Swedish near the monument to the poet at the Institute of Literature.
Such events cultivate the spirit of patriotism, national pride and love of the Motherland, Ukrainian people and our history.
