Ukraine - Georgia: Two Hearts - One Soul
In April students and teachers of Scandinavian Gymnasium visited the partner "Opiza" school (Tbilisi, Georgia). This is the second visit of our students to their friends after a three-year break. The trip left incredible impressions and the students will remember it for a long time.
Georgia is a beautiful country with historical past and modern present, but its most important asset is the people: friendly, welcoming, caring for their guests.
The program of the visit of Ukrainian students included a visit to the school, meeting students and teachers, and visiting the most interesting places in Georgia. Thus, our high-school students saw such places of interest as Kakheti and Kartli, visited the monasteries in Alaverdi, Kintsvisi, Nehres and the cave city of Vardzia which dates back to the XII century. The Ukrainian students also visited the museum of Stalin in Gori.
The pupils of the ‘Opiza’ school prepared a wonderful concert for their friends in the M. Dumbadze House of Youth showing the ethnic flavor of Georgian songs and dances. Our high-school students also presented Ukrainian art. Both performances got applause from the audience. Ukrainian students also had the opportunity to see the monument to Taras Shevchenko. They read his poems at the pedestal of the monument.
The directors of both schools had the opportunity to talk about cooperation between the schools on the "Patriarchal", "Imedi "and "The First" TV channels. The students strolled around Tbilisi every day, visited the Ferris wheel and cable cars, the Botanical Gardens, the Old Town and other places of interest. This strengthened the friendship between our students, schools, cities and countries.
It was very difficult to leave Tbilisi. Our students made friends with their Georgian peers. We appreciate their hospitality and warmth and look forward to seeing them next year.
A million hearts - one soul.
Georgia - for life!
