Kyiv - Tbilisi: two hearts - one soul

The international partnership relations recommenced at the beginning of the school year.

From  September the 7th through the 15th our long-awaited friends from the Georgian "Opiza" school in the city of Tbilisi visited Kyiv and our gymnasium for the second time . This educational project going on through the joint efforts of both schools has proved once again that distance and borders between our countries don’t put obstacles in the way of friendship, sincere feelings, and cooperation. 20 students and teachers, led by Mr. Goce Urushadze, the “Opiza” school principal, spent a week in Ukrainian families learning national character, customs and traditions of our people. The program of the visit was extremely rich, informative and diverse. The Georgian teenagers saw our gymnasium and had an opportunity to communicate with their peers in "The Vikings" Euroclub where they discussed the following topics:

  • "The role of the youth in preserving the environment”;
  • "Preservation of the cultural heritage at the international level guarantees respect for different cultures and the world values";
  • "The problem of xenophobia in the modern world ".

The most interesting topic for discussion was protection of the environment because both Ukraine and Georgia are countries of amazing countryside. And we, the younger generation, should make every effort to preserve nature. "We are a part of the whole. It depends on us what the future will be”, - said Vasily Beruashvili , one of the students of the Tbilisi school. “We don’t have to deal with the consequences. We have to deal with the problem.”
The cultural program was also very interesting. A tour of Kyiv, a visit to Kievo-Pecherska Lavra, a visit to the Museums of the Great Patriotic War, of Jewelry,  of Water and so on.

Our Georgian friends were very impressed by the "Ukrainian Village" ethnographic complex where they had the opportunity to dive into Ukrainian folk life, and to see the traditional national crafts.

The most important for the students, in our view, was the meeting at Embassy of Georgia in Ukraine where they saw how the diplomats worked, conducted a tour of the Embassy and talked to Mr. Michael Ukleboyu, the Ambassador. The students’ project was very interesting for the Georgian cultural center "Iberieli " led by Mr. Bisykom Shamuhiya, the President of the Association of Georgians in Ukraine who invited Ukrainian and Georgian schoolchildren to celebrate the new school year. This partnership project involving student exchange between schools was completed by an excellent concert prepared by the students and teachers of Scandinavian Gymnasium called " Ukraine - Georgia: two hearts - one soul.” The distinguished guests, Mr. Zurab Topuriya , the Cultural Attache' of the  Embassy of Georgia, Mr. Raul Chilachava ,a  poet and a literary critic, teachers of the Georgian cultural center were invited to the event. Our students spoke about Raul Chilachava , a Georgian translator, who in his turn said that our two countries are strategic partners not only in economic but also in spiritual and cultural areas. Parting with the Georgian delegation was very emotional. The students of Scandinavian Gymnasium who spent an unforgettable week with their Caucasian friends got an invitation from the school "Opiza" to visit Georgia in May, 2014.

So , see you in the spring, dear friends!
