Holiday of Ukrainian Embroidery
On May the 15th for the third time in succession the Holiday of Ukrainian Embroidery took place at Scandinavian Gymnasium. The Ukrainian Embroidery is the spiritual symbol of the Ukrainian people, our native land, the family home, and mother's hands warmth. All the long history of the Ukrainian nation, its creative pursuits, joy and sorrow, its victories and defeats, hopes for the future are connected with it.
Traditionally, the holiday began with radio newspaper. In the lessons of the Ukrainian language and literature the students touched the inexhaustible source of folk art.
On the eve of the holiday the student government has designed the "School Family" exhibition of photographs showing the life of high-school students and in the lobby of the gymnasium during the festive days an exhibition of folk decorative art works took place.
The highlight of the holiday was a competition-exhibition "Bread on the table - peace on the Earth". Parent and student teams demonstrated great respect for Ukrainian bread, aesthetic taste, and baking skills.
The Holiday of Embroidery coincided with the International Family Day. With the support of the "Kiyanka" Association of Business and Professional Women the students of the 10B class held a round table on "Preservation of family values in contemporary Ukrainian society" where K. Levchenko, the President of the International Women's Human Rights Center "La Strada -Ukraine" made a speech. During the meeting the guests and the students spoke about family values and preserving the traditions of modern Ukrainian family.
The holiday was completed by a patriotic finale - spreading out the State Flag and singing the anthem of Ukraine by the entire family of Scandinavian Gymnasium.
