Trip to the Fabulous Kingdom of Denmark
In the framework of the project of cooperation between Scandinavian Gymnasium and the Gymnasium of Naestved (Denmark) the partnership exchange is under way. A group of students and high school teachers went on a journey to the magical Denmark. The Ukrainian delegation took part in the training and non-formal activities: attended the classes, travelled around the city, saw the sites and interesting historical places.

Meeting at the European Club
On April the 12th the distinguished guests - Ms. Päivi Lipponen, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Future of Finland, and Mr. Tuuri Mattila, the Second Secretary of the Embassy of Finland in Ukraine, visited Scandinavian Gymnasium. During their visit the guests communicated with the students, members of the school Euro Club "The Vikings" and got acquainted with its activities, they were interested in the scientific and practical conference "Model of the United Nations" in particular.

Teachers from Turkey in the Gymnasium
On April the 1sta delegation of teachers from Turkey representing Zeytinburnu, a district of Istanbul, visited Scandinavian Gymnasium. S. Timchenko, the Head of the Department of Education of Darnitsa, the Administration and the teachers of Scandinavian Gymnasium warmly welcomed Yakup Hairlioglu, the Chairman of the Department of Education, and Umit Aydin, the Director of "Shehit" Professional Lyceum.

Results of the "Elementary School Constellation" Festival
The last chords of the traditional creative intellectual festival "The Constellation of the Elementary School" ceased. From the 11th of February, 2013 to the 7th of March, 2013 the fireworks of various events allowed each child to demonstrate his/her abilities in various creative competitions, solo and group exhibitions, and intellectual contests.

Competition of the "Shogun" Club in Estonia
On March 2-3, Tallinn (Estonia) hosted the annual international tournament for the Cup of Estonia "Tallinn Bulldog." Our karate club "Shogun" won 4 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze medals in that competition. The students of Scandinavian Gymnasium scored big successes.

To the world of the English language in the "Magic Train"
The Festival of Creativity and Intelligence is under way at our elementary school. Our third graders shone as bright stars in "The Constellation". During the first days of spring they, along with the teachers and parents, traveled to the world of English in the "Magic Train."

Model of the United Nations at # 136 Gymnasium
On March 1-2, a scientific-practical conference "The Model of the United Nations 2013: Your future starts today" took place in the gymnasium #136 which was attended by the students of the 7-10 forms of Scandinavian Gymnasium. The team of 22 high school students represented the following countries: Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway.

We play "The Geliantus"
The students of our gymnasium for two years in succession take an active part in the All-Ukrainian natural history game "The Geliantus." This academic year, 67 of its members were high school students - students of the 6-10 grades. “The Geliantus" game allows students to test their knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology and geography.

A Trip to Scandinavia
On February the 21st our 4-formers made a virtual trip to Scandinavia. This holiday has become a tradition and resulted from a fruitful research work of the students, teachers and parents.

Results of the Regional Subject Olympiads and the Junior Academy of Sciences Competition-Defense
In January, 2013 the district stage of All-Ukrainian Olympiads and the competition-defense of students’ research works of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine were completed. The students of Scandinavian Gymnasium showed good results in more than 20 subject competitions and received 73 prizes.

Anniversary of Scandinavian Gymnasium
On January the 25th Scandinavian Gymnasium celebrated its eighth anniversary. During the day, all the classes celebrated the birthday of the gymnasium which meant that everyone was able to congratulate our school with its anniversary.

Guests from the University of the City of Umeo (Sweden)
On January the 24th teachers from the University of the city of Umeo (Sweden) visited Scandinavian gymnasium. Eric Sururson, the teacher of history, Sandra Neslund, the teacher of arts, and Jimmy Carlson, the teacher of physical education, attended the lessons, talked to the teachers and students, learned about the life of our school..

Christmas matinées
At the end of December Christmas matinees for the elementary and secondary school students took place at Scandinavian Gymnasium. All the students attended a theater performance "The Snow Queen", had the opportunity to express themselves in fun games and amusements as well as to demonstrate their festive costumes.

Christmas Ball of the Ancient Dance Circle
The large bright chamber… Sounds of music ... Ladies in elegant skirts ... Gentlemen in tuxedos ... And couples whirling around in the waltz ... All this happened at the "Ten Days Before Christmas" ball in which "Renacimiento", the ancient dance circle of Scandinavian Gymnasium, participated on the 15th of December.

Independence Day of Finland
On occasion of the anniversary of the Independence Day of Finland on December the 18th the students and the teachers of Scandinavian gymnasium prepared a gala evening and invited Mrs. Arya Makkonen, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Finland in Ukraine. Professor B. Tsyganok, the President of the "Ukraine - Finland" society, K. Tishchenko, Professor of Taras Shevchenko National University, and the students of the National Music Academy of Ukraine visited the gymnasium.

In Ukraine, St. Nicholas Day has long been a significant and merry holiday. Between two days of 18 to 19 December, on a dark winter night, St. Nicholas comes down from heaven to the Ukrainian children and knows exactly how the children behave throughout the year.

St. Lucia Day
December the 13th is an important date for the people of Sweden. That's when they celebrate St. Lucia. It has become a tradition for the students of our gymnasium to celebrate this day with the Swedish community in Kyiv.
On December the 12th our students were invited by Haqqani Herstremom, the attaché of the Swedish Embassy, to celebrate the holiday.

According to the popular calendar December 14 is the day of Saint Nahum, the patron of mind and virtue. This holiday has come to us from the past because in ancient times the learning process began on that day. On the eve of the holiday the 3B form students invited the first-graders to the assembly hall to celebrate.

UN Model. Scandy - 2012
On December 7-8, traditionally, the ‘UN Model. Scandy – 2012’ scientific-practical conference was held at our gymnasium. This year's game was dedicated to the topical theme "The role of the UN in preserving the oceans." Different aspects of the topic were discussed in the six committees: WHO, UNESCO, the Committee on decolonization, on economic and financial, legal, social and humanitarian issues.

Kyiv - Berlin Project: Continuation
From November the 23rd to December the 3rd, 2012 the students of Scandinavian Gymnasium once again visited the partner school «Illig in Pankov» in Berlin (Germany). The children had a great opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the German language with native speakers, to immerse themselves in German-speaking environment and to expand their cultural horizons.

Raoul Wallenberg 100th anniversary
On November 27 at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Sweden, Hungary and Israel a solemn celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Raoul Wallenberg, the prominent Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of Jews in Budapest at the end of the Second World War.

New Victories of the "Shogun" team
On the 17th of November 44 athletes of the karate "Shogun" team took part in the international tournament “The 15th Tatami Cup” held in Budapest (Hungary). 600 athletes of 64 teams from Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Herzegovina and Ukraine competed on 6 tatamis.

The “Beaver” International Competition in Informatics
On November 12, 2012 the students of the gymnasium for the first time took part in "Beaver-2012", the contest in informatics and computer literacy. The event is supported by the Department of General Secondary and Pre-School Education of the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports, and the Institute of Innovative Technologies and Content of Education.

During the autumn holidays the students of the 8D and 8E forms of the gymnasium had a great opportunity to visit the capitals of the Baltic States and Scandinavia: Tallinn, Helsinki, Stockholm, and Riga. The program of the trip took into account the interests of pupils, it was interesting and eventful.

Guests from Norway
On October the 29th the heads of the European Wergeland Centre (EVTS) Ana Perona-Feldshtad and Lars Gudmundson visited Scandinavian gymnasium. They are the representatives of the European resource center on education for intercultural understanding, human rights and democratic civics. The creation of the EVTS (February 2009) is the result of an innovative collaboration between the Kingdom of Norway and the Council of Europe (CoE).

International project Kiev - Naestved continues
For the second consecutive year Scandinavian gymnasium has had the honor to meet the guests from the Danish partner school in the city of Naestved, Denmark. From the 21st to the 26th of October the visit of our friends studying Russian at home took place. The novelty of the current project was attending the lessons in different subjects where the Danish students felt like the students of the Ukrainian school.

On October 22nd, 2012 at Scandinavian gymnasium in the framework of the agreement on cooperation the meeting of the Academic Council of the Ukraine’s APS Institute of Pedagogics was held. Since 2010 the primary school of Scandinavian gymnasium has being holding events together with the APS Institute of Pedagogics in the framework of the innovation program “The methods of forming key and subject competences of younger students in the learning process."

Ours in Finland
From the 14th to the 21st of October, 2012, the students of the 9D form of Scandinavian gymnasium under the guidance of V. Organista, a teacher of the Finnish language, participated in an international youth music festival «Twin City Youth» which took place in Finland. The project brought together creative young people from Hungary, Finland, Ukraine and Russia.

Not so long ago, 8E- and 6G-form students visited Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskyy, a magical city with long and exciting history. Probably, the most exciting was the Museum of Architecture and Everyday Life of the people of Middle Dnipro region, an open-air museum, located in the vicinity of Pereyaslav.

Memories of the Summer
On the 14th of September a bright exhibition of the 5-7-formers’ creative works «My happy memories of summer» opened at Scandinavian Gymnasium (supervisor - teacher of the fine arts J.P. Rozkolodko). The children made a collage of their works.

Under the direction of L. Brykova, our history teacher, the students of the 10th grade participated in the project «Let’s create the alphabet of Ukraine together». The works of the winners were published in the first edition of «The ABC» book written in Ukrainian and translated into German.

On the 13th of July a guest - Bogdan Grebenyuk, the leader of the Darnytsya District Organization of the political party "Front of Changes" - visited our school. He didn’t come empty-handed: Mr. Grebenyuk made a present of 20 new desks and chairs, enough to furnish a whole class.
