Graduation of the Ninth-Formers

On the 18th of June a graduation party for the ninth-form students who obtained their certificates of the basic secondary education was given.  The graduating students prepared a wonderful concert to celebrate the occasion of finishing the basic school.

Holiday of the Last Bell

On the 28th of May the Holiday of the Last Bell was celebrated at Scandinavian Gymnasium. During the solemn ceremony the 1-11 formers, the teachers and the parents lined up. This is a happy holiday but at the same time very sad. Happy, because the school year is completed, summer holidays are before us, and sad, because this is the last school bell for our graduating students, students of the 11А and B classes.

Constitution Day of Norway

In the framework of the national holiday of Norway – the Day of the Constitution – on the 17th of May the Days of Norwegian Culture were held in Kyiv. The Embassy of Norway and the «Telenor» company invited the students of Scandinavian Gymnasium to take part in the holiday timed to this festive occasion which took place in the Freedom Concert Hall.

The ABC Party

The school year is drawing to a close. Though it seemed difficult and long but it was also cognitive and interesting. For the first-formers it was the first school year in their life. What have the first-formers learnt? The children cheerfully showed their knowledge of the English language to their parents and teachers. On the 20th of May the ABC Party took place in Scandinavian Gymnasium. It was prepared by the students of the 1G form under the direction of their English language teachers N. V. Kanyuka, N. R. Kuzmenko, K. A. Rybalchenko.

Kyiv – Newshoping: Meeting again

From the 9th through the 15th of May, the students of the partner Tessen High school from the Swedish city of Newshoping visited Scandinavian Gymnasium. The students of the gymnasium hospitably received their Swedish guests in their families and spent all their time with the guests. They visited different museums together: the Museum of Chornobyl, the Museum of Oriental and Occidental Arts, the Museum of Water, Kiyevo Pecherska Lavra, the Opera, and other places of interest.  A row down the river Dnipro and a visit to the botanical gardens were also very interesting.

Round-table Discussion

On April, 26 a round-table discussion “Urgent Problems of Education and Enlightenment in Scandinavia (by the example of Denmark): Realities and Prospects” took place in Scandinavian Gymnasium. Hanna Severinsen, a Europarliament Member, L. Shkorkina, a representative of the Worldwide Organization of Education (Russian division), N. Shugaliy, post-graduate student of the Nizhin State Pedagogical University, G. M. Sagach, Ph. D. in pedagogical sciences, professor, academician of three International Academies, coordinator of enlightenment problems, Ukraine-Denmark, teachers and 7-9 form students of Scandinavian Gymnasium took part in the round-table discussion.

“Northern Lights” The Middle Ages

On April, 15 the blare of the trumpets of the traditional “Northern Lights” festival sounded in Scandinavian Gymnasium again. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden in Ukraine, Stephen Gullgen, the Counselor of the Head of the Mission, Christian Camill,  the Press Attachй of the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine, Tetyana Nekrasova, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland  in Ukraine, Christer Mikkelson with his wife, the Secretary of the Kingdom of Norway, Buthild Oslaugedotter Norsletten and other distinguished guests visited the gymnasium.

Model of the United Nations Organization. Scandy – 2010

From the 19th through the 21st of March the fifth regional conference of senior students “Model of the UN. Kyiv – 2010” was held. The Model of the United Nations Organization is an international educational programme enabling senior students to go deep into the world of politics and diplomacy, to learn in depth the UN activities simulating the UN General Assembly sessions, meetings of committees and commissions.  This is the forth time the team of Scandinavian Gymnasium has taken part in the conference.

Kyiv - Vekhö: Meeting Anew

From the 7th through the 11th of March the friends from Katedralskola (Vekhö, Sweden) visited Scandinavian Gymnasium for the third time. Our students visited Vekhö in September. Such exchange of students has become traditional for our gymnasium. The students of Katedralskola were welcomed to the families of the 10-11th formers.

Theatrical meeting

It is really difficult to meet a person who doesn’t love the theater. On February the 26th, 2010 the «Rostok
- Rampa» theater made a present for the students of Scandinavian Gymnasium – a festival of meeting with the art.  The children loved a merry and interesting «Fairy-Tale from a Suitcase».

Staging «Cinderella» in English

On the 24th of February, 2010 «Cinderella» was staged by the students of 7A, 7B and 7G forms under the direction of Lesya R. Rozvaga, their English language teacher. The show was not only a traditional fairy-tale dramatization but also a wonderful musical presenting winter traditions of Scandinavian countries.

Week of Courtesy and Benevolence

Since the 10th through the 19th of February the Week of Courtesy and Benevolence was held in the primary school. In each class creative teamwork produced excellent results: the students collected proverbs, painted pictures, made postures, generated creative ideas.

Birthday of Scandinavian Gymnasium

On February the 5th Scandinavian Gymnasium marked its 5th anniversary by celebration. The teachers, the students, and their parents participated in the concert. Distinguished guests - representatives of “Kyivmiskbud” holding company, of the education administration, directors of other schools - visited the gymnasium.

New Year's matinees!

On the 14th and 15th of January New Year's matinees took place at Scandinavian Gymnasium. The primary school pupils had the chance to enjoy more holidays and to merrily celebrate the Old Style New Year.

New acquaintances

On December, 18 the students of Scandinavian Gymnasium who study Swedish met Christian Kamill, the Counselor of the Swedish Embassy in Ukraine. The meeting was held in a warm and friendly climate. Mr. Kamill told the students about the work of the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine, its aims and functions and the students showed the gymnasium to the distinguished guest, gave a presentation and asked him to answer the questions they took interest in.

Saint Nicholas Day

On December, 18 Saint Nicholas sent his angels with the gifts for the primary school students to Scandinavian Gymnasium and the devils came without invitation with birch-rods instead of gifts. But having visited the classes the guests found only truthful, obedient and hard-working children.

Norwegian presentation

On December, 16 the representatives of the Norwegian company «Telenor» Anna Snitser, Anastasiya Gogoleva, Irene Nicholska-Roddvik together with a journalist and historian Galvor Chyon visited Scandinavian Gymnasium. A friendly meeting with high school students who study Swedish was organized.  Galvor Chyon presented his book “Russ of the Vikings” which depicts the historical contacts between Russ and Norway.

Santa Lucia - 2009

On December, 11 the students of the 5G form of Scandinavian Gymnasium congratulated heartily the employees of the Swedish SEB Bank on traditional Swedish holiday of Santa Lucia which is celebrated on the 13th of December in Sweden. The students dressed in national costumes told the employees of the bank about the history of Santa Lucia and sang traditional Swedish songs.

Celebrating the Anniversary of Independence of Finland

December, 7. On the occasion of the 92nd Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Finland a gala party and a concert were arranged with the assistance of the “Ukraine - Finland“Society, Petro I. Chaikovskyy National Musical Academy of Ukraine, and the students of Scandinavian Gymnasium.

December, 1 – The World Day of Fight against AIDS

At Scandinavian Gymnasium on the 1st of December, 2009, the World Day of Fight against AIDS, the students of the 5-10 forms were provided with informative materials about HIV/AIDS.

Action «Light a Candle!

On the 27th of November the lesson in memory of the victims of the 1933-1934 Famine took place at Scandinavian Gymnasium. The students voiced their views and sentiments in relation to the frightful tragedy of the Ukrainian people answering the questions.....

Primary School Festival

From the 1st to the 23rd of October the festival of the primary school was being held. The children enjoyed different interesting activities: sport competitions between the 3rd and 4th formers, an art exhibition presenting creative works on the subjects of fire prevention and road rules,
