The Model of the United Nations Organization: Scandy - 2010
On the 25th of November the scientific practical conference of senior students “UN Model: Scandy 2010” was held at Scandinavian Gymnasium. 17 member-countries of the UN which were represented by 7-11 formers discussed the problem of saving biodiversity for sustainable development of humankind.
Just before the beginning of the conference the participants could see the exhibition of articles prepared by the teams for the event. Each work called for protection of the environment. The welcoming addresses to our UN General Assembly delegates were delivered by Tetyana E. Pushkaryova, the Headmistress of Scandinavian Gymnasium, and Yelyzaveta A. Glotova, the project organizer. The ambassador of every country made a statement in English on behalf of its delegation.
After that intensive work in the committees started. It’s worth mentioning that graduate students of Scandinavian Gymnasium, university students at present, chaired the meetings of the committees since they initiated this enthralling work a few years ago. Heated, sharp and spirited debates, emotional and persuasive speeches made the meetings of the committees fruitful and interesting. This was a result of great preparatory work. To represent the selected country it was necessary to thoroughly study its characteristic features, issues of the day and to know its problems. Here our students showed themselves broad-minded people, well-informed about all the problems. That is why the resolutions read by the representatives of the committees were passed by a majority.
Very interesting appeared to be the creative improvisation where every committee during 45 minutes prepared and showed an example of social advertising on the subject of ecology. The delegates and the guests extended a cordial welcome to the teams delivering their original performances. The reporters of the press center followed all ongoing activities. And as a result – excellent presentation given at the end of the conference.
This saturated day left nobody indifferent. So many interesting ideas and suggestions were expressed! Everybody saw that our students were not playing adults. They were themselves: sincere and convincing in the judgements, open and direct. It found its reflection in the resolutions passed by the conference.
“We, the young generation of Ukraine, declare our responsibility before each other, before all humanity and before our future children for saving and protecting the environment at the local, regional, national and global levels,"- so the address of delegates of conference to world association begins, which was read out by Volodya Stetsenko, our UN Secretary General.
