On May the 19th a meeting of our senior students with Oyvind Nordshletterom, the first Ambassador of Norway in Ukraine, a representative of Fridtjof Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue, and members of the Ukraine-Scandinavia Center took place at Scandinavian Gymnasium.
The students learned about Fridtjof Nansen, Norwegian polar explorer and scientist, the High Commissioner of the League of Nations for Prisoners of War, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, and "The Norwegian of the Millennium". Kirill Kramskoy, our graduate, a student of Taras Shevchenko National University, helped to learn more about the life and accomplishments of this remarkable man, and his role in Ukrainian history. He spoke about Nansen’s achievements in overcoming hunger of 1921-1923 that saved millions of Ukrainian people from starving to death. For his work and saving people’s lives, Fridtjof Nansen was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize which he used to help people who got into trouble.
